Daily Question: The Creation

In this account God is developing the Earth over the course of several days. During the first day he created light, which he separated from the darkness. This resulted in night and day. On the second day, God created the sky to separate the waters above and below the dome he named the sky. On the third day God separated the dry land from the waters, creating Earth and Seas. Vegetation was, also, placed on Earth. During the fourth day God created the Sun and the Moon to rule the day and night respectively. On the fifth day God created all of the animals and instructed them to be fruitful. On the sixth day God created humankind who he instructed to multiply and have dominion over all of the animals. The human person is not present until the sixth day. On this day humankind listens to God and his explanation of their role on the Earth. However, no human responds to God or seems to be present in this passage. Additionally, after almost every day it is stated that “God saw that it was good”(Genesis 1:12); therefore, God is acknowledging his creations each day are good and then continues with the next day. However, the seventh day is different from the first six. God is completed with developing the Earth, so he rests. God blesses this day because he rested from all of the work he did. However, it is clear that God does not require rest; therefore, it is puzzling as to why he would need a day to relax. I think this day is created not for God, but for humankind to acknowledge God. Just like God worked for six days and acknowledged his creations of the days prior, I think the seventh day is for humans to stop their work and reflect on the past week and remember God.
